Challenges of dating as a single parent

Single parents face many and various challenges including: Balancing It may be difficult to balance work and parenting.

To be able to provide for the children one needs to work extra hard as to be able to support them.

Children face special challenges with an absent parent.

However, President Hinckley (1995) has said, "The more surely you rear your children in the ways of the gospel of Jesus Christ, with love and high expectation, the more likely that there will be peace in their lives" (p. Living and teaching the principles of the gospel can assure single parents that their children will not be lost. He invites all, single, married, divorced, or otherwise, to "come unto him and partake of his goodness" (2 Nephi ).

A single parent is supposed to take care of the kids, provide for them and the same times teach them and hence balancing his/her professional responsibilities and parenting is a challenge.

Financial problems This is one of the biggest challenges faced by single parents especially if they are not getting any financial support from their ex-spouses.

This sometimes leads to the parent being antisocial and lonely.

Task overload A single parent is required to take responsibilities of what is naturally meant for two people.

The Proclamation instructs that "disability, death or other circumstances may necessitate individual adaptation" (¶ 7).They may try to offer financial advice, become jealous if the mother starts dating, and attempt to assume an adult role in the fam¬ily.The girl also may sometimes assume a ma¬ternal role in relation to their mother and siblings.Personal time Single parents tend to feel like they have no time for themselves.Time to exercise, go out with friends or even some alone time and even if they get that personal time they are usually very tired to carry out the activities.
